RE-RUN #15
"exhale...aaahh"

8:01 a.m.

original date: 1-27-03

well, work was awful today...but my weekend starts now, so FUCK IT! today, i actually had a customer hold up a bottle of clorox and ask me "hey, is this bleach?"

it was like that...ALL DAY.

perhaps too much superbowl, i'm not sure.

look at what GADFLY said about his new job:

"So I started a new job this week. Holy hallelujah, I think I'm going to have to start singing the theme to "Alice" on the way to this new gig of a morning, 'cuz I think this girl is gonna stay a while. At my new job, they cart in a load of fruit and pastries for the staff every morning. The office coffee is sublime. They gave me a cubicle with a window, and a view of Lake Michigan. My boss has threatened to crepe paper my desk as some form of welcoming ritual. I just ended two days of training with a woman who couldn't conceal her love for Tom Waits. I think I could do much worse. Hell, I HAVE done much worse. Everyone's nice. Urbane. Funny. It's creepy."

geez, i think i'd trade places with him in a new york, uh, i mean a chicago minute. oh, and if you go back a few entries, he's got a link to the video for johnny cash's version of nine inch nails' "hurt".

that g-fly...the boy's so hip, it hurts. i can always count on him to keep me up-to-date on the really cool stuff that i've missed...

oh, god this is strange...the vancouver police have set up a website to try to identify people who were rioting there when axl failed to show up for the guns 'n roses gig! click HERE to see if you recognize anyone. i guess there was a lot of media there covering the show, cuz it was the opening of the soon-to-be ill-fated tour. they even have VIDEOS! i guess big brother IS watching.

here's two stories that i really love...if you're around me long enough, eventually you'll hear them...so here they are.

1.
several years ago, paul simon was visiting john mellencamp down at his home in indiana. as you might know, mellencamp paints. some of his stuff is pretty cool...here's one...

anyhoo, mellencamp takes simon out to his painting studio, and there leaning against the wall is a big painting. i mean HUGE! mellencamp asks simon what he thinks of it. after staring at it in mute amazement for a while, all simon can say is "wow, i didn't know they made canvases that big."

2.
a while after ronald reagan left the white house and was back in california (and at the beginning of his alzheimer's) one thing he really enjoyed doing was scooping leaves out of the swimming pool in the morning after a windy night. as his condition got worse, this little chore seemed to mean more and more to him. so much in fact, that eventually nancy started having the secret service guys gather up some leaves in the morning before ronnie woke up and spread them around in the pool, just so he'd have something to occupy his time.
