i've got something in my pants for you!
6:33 p.m.

> WARNING!

this is an extremely LONG entry...you might want to bring a sleeping bag and something to eat.

as flounder said in animal house, "oh, boy, this is gonna be GREAT!"

ok, quite often i find myself writing little notes during the day at work to remind me of things i want to mention in my entry when i get home. tonight, i'm going to deconstruct just such a note. today's note, in fact. here it is...

looks like something found in the pocket of a "lone gunman"...but no, it's just me. all will be explained in detail...but first i must go eat dinner. back soon...

7:45 p.m.

dinner was great...garlic rosemary roasted red potato wedges (ok, i didn't actually make them, they came frozen, but mmmm!) and a nice ribeye steak...daddy loves hisself a big slab 'o red meat now and again.

ok, back to today's note.

rain...6 inches:

actually, on friday we had 6.79 inches of rain! that's a record, folks! you should have seen the flood pictures i saw today...many intersections in town were underwater, and out in the elk river area (out in the country) some people got stuck in a car in the water. someone drove out to rescue them, and then THEY got stuck. finally, the coast guard had to come and get everybody out of there!

for the whole story as reported by our local bird-cage-liner of a newspaper, click HERE. sorry, but the "sub-standard" is too cheap to put photos with its web site's news stories.

orange peels:

the weather reminded me of how when i was in grade school linda fletcher from across the street and i would save our orange peels from lunch and throw them in the water rushing in the gutter when we walked home in the rain. it was so much fun to see the pieces of peel disappear under the street and come out the gutter on the other side...if only i was so easily amused these days.

t-shirts:

my friend patrick was up from berkeley over christmas. pat's a super-cool guy...about, oh maybe 23 now. he used to work in our store. great taste in music. vaguely resembles the boy-next-door in "american beauty". skinny as fuck. black hair. great style. anyway, pat's into silk-screening t-shirts. last year i gave him a big bag of weird thrift store t-shits i picked up for him, and he gave me a couple of mix tapes that i just started to get into when i started driving the truck to work again. well, he came in the store last week and gave me two shirts he'd made. here's the first one...

yippee! it's william s. burroughs! is that cool or what?

before i show you the other one, let me give you a little background. it's a picture that some punk kid in high school made several years ago. i saw a picture of a guy from a local band wearing one...i think pat and i were talking about it and he knew the guy who made it. a year or two ago when pat was up here he said he had gotten a copy of the stencil...and lo and behold, here we are and i've finally got one of my own! take a look...

haha, welcome to eureka! in the background that's the pulp mill smokestack across the bay (which has since been demolished with explosives...there's a video clip of that some somewhere, i've gotta find that again someday...) and oops, watch out, someone's pointing a gun at you! god, i've wanted one of these shirts for soooo long!

jean:

jean was married to a guy (named guy! a.k.a. gus icky) who was in one of our favorite local punk bands (the uptights) back in the early 80's. i've talked to her twice in the last fifteen years. they've been living down in the santa cruz area for several years. her and guy are divorced but still friendly. they have a 13-year-old son named kit who i've never seen! well, jean called me a few weeks ago...she's moved back up here. we had a great chat, and we're gonna get together soon. god , we had so many great times back then, sometime i'm gonna have to tell some of those stories. it was so nice to hear her wonderful laugh after all this time.

harriet

oh, harriet, where do i begin? harriet was jean's best friend. she was with cary, another guy in the uptights. him and guy were best friends, too. the four of them...really, that's another LONG entry. someday. harriet was like the new wave/punk queen to me. i took so many pictures of them, harriet and jean would come over to my apartment, we'd get some drinks and music going, and we'd have sort of a fashion shoot party. i WILL post some of those pictures here...deciding which ones will be the hard part. a few years ago i heard from my friend doug that harriet had breast cancer. he found her email address for me, but i didn't have a computer then, and i really wasn't sure how to start up communication with her. i didn't just want to say "hi, i heard you're not doing so well, thought i'd better get in touch with you..." so i kind of put it off. then cary was up here about a year or so ago, and he said harriet was still going through all that, but he wasn't really in touch with her. so when i talked to jean, she gave me harriet's email, which was the one i had gotten from doug. so pretty soon i'm gonna get hold of her. i just need to think about what i want to say. jean says she's been through a lot the last several years, her parents aren't doing so well...so, yes, i've gotta get on that one. these people were so important to me, i really wanna keep in touch.

whew...gonna take a break, this is turning out to be quite a lengthy entry tonight...

back...

lisa:

i've known lisa since junior high school. she used to live here, but moved down to vacaville about a year ago...now commuting to work in berkeley every day. oh, there's a lot of lisa stories...smoked my first joint with her...just got her email from a friend, so i think we'll be talking a lot in the future. she's the kind of friend i can connect with no matter how long it's been...funny how people from my past are showing up all of a sudden...i can only take it as a good sign...

rainbow:

on his way to work yuman the pharmacist took a picture of a double rainbow...there was about five minutes of sunshine between rainstorms...this turned out pretty good considering he was driving at the time...

camera (crossed out):

that's andrea's handwriting...creepy, isn't it? she uses a ruler! it says camera cuz the note was actually a post-it stuck to the little stack of camera department signs i had to put up at 6:00 a.m.

anthony:

oh this is embarrassing...i mentioned him once before HERE...he's just a little munchkin that...oh, you know...um...nevermind! he came in the store christmas day all spiffed up in black pants, a black shirt, and a white vest...he was with this girl in a great black dress with fringe on the bottom and sleeves... it looked like they just came from dinner or something. had his little sunglasses on. (which i hate) they kind of made a loop once around the store and walked out the door. weird. (rob: "um, i think he's straight." me: "i don't care, that's not the point. i don't wanna convert him, i just like looking at him.") EXTRA EMBARRASSING NOTE: this is a guy...well, how can i put this...i once took a picture of his ASS...don't ask. yes it was clothed. no he didn't see me do it. it's like dana carvey as george michael on SNL: "look at it! you can't turn away! it's a perfect circle! scientists use it to calibrate their instruments!" so um, yeah, anthony has the perfect ass.

that is by far the creepiest thing i've written yet...

swiftly moving on...

scott:

scott is someone who got involved with one of those russian women on the internet. he went to the ukraine last year and they really didn't hit it off. but now he sends her money every month for english lessons and she's gonna be here by next christmas supposedly....personally i think he's gonna get BURNED! we shall see. scott's ok i guess, i was SHOCKED he wasn't familiar with "smells like teen spirit"...i mean, hellooo? but he kind of bugs me cuz he talked smack about my good friend...as if HE'S singlehandedly keeping the store afloat...NOT!

tv:

i'm writing this section on monday night...all of a sudden at work today it popped into my head that i forgot this part. i think the note was so messy that nobody even noticed! it's just about how at work we set up a tv, vcr, and dvd player to show movies during the holidays...we've been running "monsters inc." mostly. but since bo got layed off, no one knows how to get everything running! he had written some instructions down...not that he knew he was gonna get let go, but just for when he had a day off. and he said it was so easy...just press option 2...HA! i've gotten it to work a few times, but usually i just give up...i feel so stupid about this. the dvd player has no clear indications on the buttons about what does what...it's just a bunch of arrows going every which way...it looks like heiroglyphics to me...and the remote has so many buttons on it...oh well, the whole set-up will be coming down soon, but i sure wish i could have figured it out!

something crossed out:

hmmm, maybe some other time...still working on that one. concerns my search for "the truth". (not as big a deal as it sounds.)

shania twain:

i just wanted to say that i think she is one of the most talented singers around. no, wait, no i didn't. it's just that i heard that her new album comes in three different versions...rock, country, and one with sort of indian string arrangements...did i dream that? hold on, i've gotta go check...ok, it's a two-disc set, one country, one pop...the same songs. indian strings? where the hell did i get that from? i coulda sworn....oh that is strange...

rob-yuman:

this is SUPPOSED to remind me to tell rob that yuman is looking for a new place, and that we were tossing around the idea that maybe rob might want to go in on a place together. but i think rob wants his own place...he hasn't mentioned the roomie possibility..of course i emailed rob TWICE tonight and neglected to mention it, but i did tell him he'd be in this entry. i dunno, yuman's pretty mellow, and he's mostly at work...he's our only pharmacist. i could see them getting along. but rob's like me, we love our privacy...

roadiepig:

i wrote his name once and crossed it out...it looked so messy i wrote it again, cuz by that point i had already formulated the whole plan for this entry in my head and i knew that i was gonna have to scan the note. this was to remind me that i needed to write roadie a long letter, which i did. he's gonna help me out on a little project and i respect his opinion greatly.

good golly, all this from one little piece of paper. hope you enjoyed my little experiment here, and once again, if you made it to the end, love ya! it was fun but exausting. it's 1:00 a.m. now!

back to work for one more day and then three days off! phone should be back on tomorrow, i hope. i sure would like to talk to my little buddy at least once before he heads back to the city of the fallen angels... and before that candle burns out...goodnight all.
