a perfect day!
1:50 p.m.

here's why thursday was such a great day...

rob and i drove to arcata and walked for a while. then we went to tin can mailman, a really cool used bookstore. i found a BIG book of photographs by the legendary norman seeff, called sessions...it's only the second book of his i've ever seen. i bought one called hot shots about 25 years ago...seeff has done some amazing album covers over the years...joni's hejira, carly simon's playing possum, the band's stage fright, and many more. his photos are really wonderful, the way his subjects sometimes fade into the deep shadows...i dunno how he does it. the book is full of beautiful portraits, and there's interviews with some of his subjects. it was a real steal for 15 bucks.

i also picked up buddy babylon, the "autobiography of buddy cole", by scott thompson of kids in the hall fame. if you don't know who buddy cole is, you're one sad homo...it's hilarious.

thursday evening i went down to loleta to see sheila's daughter maggie graduate from 8th grade. (i'm gonna see if they can email me a picture, check back here later, ok?) loleta is about 15 minutes from here. it's out in the country, and it's SO beautiful down there!

ok, kevin just sent me a picture...here's maggie getting her diploma...

she's all growed up! seems like only yesterday she looked like this...

that's sheila on the right, driving...look out for that cow in the road!

the graduation was fun...maggie gave a speech and did a great job! i had cake and cookies. saw sheila's sister, nephew, mom and dad, her brothers, and sheila's ex and his new ladyfriend. it was good to see everyone, it's been too long.

it was funny, cuz i left sheila a message a few days earlier asking what they were doing thursday, cuz i haven't been down to see them in a long time, i was scared to drive the truck on the highway, and now that i've got the metro, i should have been down there before this. so she called back and said maggie was graduating. later she told me that maggie said she should see what i was doing on thursday, and the next day was when i called her, so that worked out good.

after that we went back to sheila's house...she fixed me a great sandwich...had potato salad, and date squares too...sheila's a great cook.

her and kevin just got back from newfoundland (that's where sheila's from) and i saw some great pictures from their trip. the people are real nice up there, and sheila saw some family. they'd like to buy a small house up there someday and maybe live there half the year...during the summer that is, the winters are pretty bleak! it's WAY up there! i thought it was just above maine, but no, it's a lot further.

maggie's a BIG good charlotte fan...let's see...it was power rangers, spice girls, *nsync, and now a little punk! that sounds like a logical progression.

she likes a little country too, they're gonna go see kenny chesney down at konocti..it was funny, cuz i was telling them how i have my clock radio set to the country station, so i wake up to some twangin' in the morning. i was kinda making fun of this song i heard, something about "she think's my tractor's sexy"...oops! that's the guy they're going to see! my bad!

i played them some of the cd i just burned, all kinds of stuff, including that drunk john wayne thing...mag fields, ramones, keith richards...while sheila gave me a LONG back massage. she could feel the knots in my lower back, so i think it's just knotted muscles, not a bad disc or anything...my back problem's been kinda on and off, but i AM gonna go to the doctor soon.

sheila was really hitting some good spots, she was using some nice aloe cream...i was screaming when she was getting the middle of my back...not in pain, but it was taking my breath away, it felt so good! i sounded like phone sex or something.

even the drive home was great. the highway was empty, and my little car is so zippy...i was blasting "this is hardcore" by pulp and i played "bicycle race" by queen about 5 times in a row! then "carbona not glue" by the ramones a few times and i was home!

and that, my friends, was a perfect day in my book!

ok, gotta get back to work.

much love, michael
