"older scenesters of the world unite!"

"bloody hell, not this shite again! time for me nap...zzzzzzz..."

...wow, id / body cavity search? i HAVEN'T been to a show in a long time, i guess! haha.

but seriously, folks...imagine in ten years...you're still hip to what's cool, but go to a show and the kids will wonder who's mom you are...i never went to shows the last couple years and i wish i had... like the white stripes at a funky little club down by the bay...THEY won't be back (not there anyway).

i mean, i might wait on a cutie at work in a smiths t-shirt and i feel i'm too old to strike up a conversation..or worse, something older...dead kennedys, say..."hey kids, i saw jello at the rough trade record store when it was in north beach...he was a real asshole!" but i just can't...it feels...patronizing almost.

i remember on the old roseanne show, the sitcom, her telling darlene "hey, i'm cool, i like that snoopy dog guy!"

*cringe*

and speaking of jello, you probably heard how HE got beat up at gillman st. in berkeley by kids who thought he was now a "sellout" or something... that was when it all kind of ended for me. the kids don't know their history. but , seeing a kid in a dk's tshirt, i both think it's cool, and also wanna say "how do you know this stuff? it was over 20 yrs. ago!" and that's why i wanna get all those punk history books on my wishlist...it's funny how those are all coming out now...it's not history when you're in the middle of it. that's the weird part. oh, you might have been at a show where you knew you were gonna remember it forever, but you don't think of it the same way you will 20 yrs. later...

"i am embracing middle age with grace and dignity."

i mean, i think the history of punk should be taught in college...well, i'm sure they touch on it...but kids should know, for instance, about how important the ramones going over to england in 1976 was...what that caused, and how the reverberations are still with us today. but i can get very uppity about it too, when i see bands like blink 182, and kids thinking it's something new...i always quote kurt..."i've seen it all / i was here first". i want that on MY tombstone...either that or "it was exausting being right all the time"! ha ha! well, i hope i haven't eaten up your critical bandwith here or something like that...i know these comments aren't usually so long, but it kinda just spewed out...i'll leave you with something sheila said..." i'm too pooped to punk!" we could do a whole book on this subject, you and me, interviewing people who feel alienated by getting older...well, time for my metamucil and icy-hot...buh-bye now.mk

"twat's that you say? i cunt hear you!"
