all the small things
10:01 p.m.

i was walking down the street yesterday, and i saw someone i haven't seen in years. he's married to someone who used to work at the store. oh, and i went to school with his brother. i don't really even know this guy. he drove by in his truck, which had the name of his landscaping business painted on the door, so i put the name and the face together and thought, "oh, right, tammy's husband." it was funny, the way it looked...someone going by with their name right under their face, like a photo or a painting in a book with a caption under it.

maybe everyone should have their name on their car...would that make life easier?

i saw someone else i know the other day. i was walking down the sidewalk and i passed this yard where there were some kids and some adults. i recognized one woman...i used to know her a bit, her (now ex-) husband's sister was someone i went to school with. (these stories sound so similar, yet they're not connected at all). it was odd, i decided in a split second it would be too complicated to stop and say hi, so i kept on walking...i mean, i don't even remember her name. she didn't even see me, and in a moment i was down the block.

i can't even see a point to all this, i guess i'm thinking how it's weird when we DON'T know people anymore...

lily taylor mentioned my employers by name tonight on six feet under...and, god, wasn't the first 10 minutes of last week's show amazing? nate almost died on the operating table and saw himself walking around the family house and in each room he saw a different way his life might have gone. i really liked when he saw what would have happened if his father had married another woman...there WAS a nate fisher, but it wasn't him! just brilliant... and once the show really kicks in...holy shit, he's married to lisa! talk about a surprise...oh, and catherine o'hara is fantastic as lisa's neurotic hollywood hot-shot boss. god, i love her so much, i wish she did more acting.

if you don't watch the show...sorry.

and i changed the title of the 6fu ring on my ring page from "fisher and sons" to "fisher and diaz" cuz rico is a full partner now, don'tcha know.

i made pancakes the other night for the first time in i don't know how long. i chopped some of the walnuts that judi next door gave me last fall...they've been drying out in the garage all winter. (have you ever seen walnuts fresh off the tree? it was new to me...they look like wrinkled limes, about the size of a tennis ball. you peel off the skin, and inside is a walnut.) i also added some cinnamon to the batter, so the pancakes were cinnamon walnut...duh! very good. i always like to improvise in the kitchen, but you probably already know that...maybe i can say it's jazz cooking...a jam session in the kitchen...oh, how pretentious, i know. but i like to open the fridge or the cupboard and say "hmm, let's put a little of that and that in this and see what happens." i rarely use recipies, cuz there's always SOMETHING i don't have on hand...but that doesn't mean i haven't thrown out some truly awful experiments. the chicken broth i tried to thicken up with cornstarch last week turned into some kind of wheat paste, and i always seem to be scared of using too much salt in things...

but all in all, i'd say my kitchen has just the right ammount of "africa" in it...

there's a show coming up down south of here, right in the heart of pot-growing country...it's tone-loc and sir mix-a lot! we seem to get a lot of has-beens around here. i'm sure great white WOULD have made their way to club west eventually...

i think queen latifah is gonna be big.

geez, that dylan thing has been on TWICE since i came in here to type...

i bought a two-pack of the new dual-action battery powered crest toothbrushes, so i'm using the old one to massage the cat. i thought the noise would bother him, but i guess it feels too good...he loves it under his chin...

when you really know me, you'll know that when i say "i'm sending you a package this week", you can expect a bit of a delay...it's always a problem for me to get something right in the mail, but eventually it gets on it's way...SO...k. maria, steve, and jr...something is coming your way(s) soon...really!

my god, the reality shows are breeding like rabbits! most of them sound so bad...last night on snl they were running fake ads for "i'm a celebrity, who farted?" and then the real ads came on for "fear factor in las vegas" and something like "you're dating my mom" and the line got pretty blurry...and on "update" they were talking again about "vagina auction" on fox..."yeah, vagina auction was really GOOD this week"...i ONLY watch survivor and big brother, so i'm under control, i guess.

i'm planning an entry about all the shows i DON'T watch...all the "hip" stuff i've never seen, like "alias" and "24" (i never know what should be in quotes and what should be in italics, so i just wing it...you know me, the only time i capitalize is to emphasize something...) but yeah, i'm gonna do an entry about shows i'd probably like...malcolm in the middle, say, or maybe...uh...oh right, the sopranos! there's too many people on that show, i never know what's going on!

god, this has turned into a pretty weird entry!

things i probably wont be getting around to writing about:

the whole michael jackson thing...

and the grammys.

speaking of which: sorry all you bruuuuce fans, but most of the time i find mr. "springstreet" a lttle too...earnest for my taste...every little gesture seems so important or something... oh, bruce is alright, i've loved a lot of his stuff over the years, and that hbo thing last year was really fantastic... it was the first time i really "got it"... his command of the stage is really impressive, and i mean, you certainly get you money's worth! oh, i guess i sound like i'm contradicting myself here... but to me, it always looks like he's trying to take a shit when he's singing, and when you see him talk, that kind of clenched-jaw thing he does drives me to distraction! but that said, what i've heard off the new album impressed me, as far as covering the whole 9-11 thing (god, why i didn't see THAT coming, i'll never know, i mean, who ELSE but bruce, he IS sorta the poet laureate of a generation or two).

BUT, you should be aware that la toya also did a 9-11 song...i'm gonna go get the lyrics...

FREE THE WORLD

(INTRO)
We must bring an end
to all discrimination
Let's free the world
And make a better place for children
throughout the world
Why should they suffer from our battles
They are, our future
They are, the voice of tomorrow

(VERSE)
Divided by a land
Devastations here at hand
Lets free the world
But is it that simple

United we must stand
In this war possessed by man
Lets free the world
But is it that simple

Years and years of war
Lets bring it to an end
All because of man
Why cant we put it into Gods hands
Lets free the world
But is it that simple

Creation was his plan
Children learn and take a stand
Lets free the world
(Lets free the world)
But is it that simple

(CHORUS)
Were all Gods creation
Across all nations
Its time for us
To come together as one
Lets free the world

(VERSE)
Join your hands
Lets pray to him to save our land
Lets free the world
But is it that simpl

Faith and love from up above
Will get us through
Lets free the world
(Free the world)
But is it that simple

(CHORUS)
(CHORUS 2)
Let us end all discrimination
Across all nations
Its time for us
To come together as one
Lets free the world
But is it that simple

We are the future
The next generation
Please dont destroy
Just protect all nations
No more fears
Our futures clear

All this because of segregation
Education, communication will end discrimination
Lets free the world
(Free the world)
Lets free the world
(Free the world)

(CHORUS)

(CHORUS 2)

ADLIBS OUT

Lets make it simple

ok, um, well...i guess that about covers it...six feet under...pancakes...vagina auction...bruce...la toya...yes, that's it for tonight!
